I'm confused

I know this is deer and deer hunting but am sure there are some wildlife experts viewing. I just saw a hen turkey [ 10/25] here in Va. with a whole brood of young ones. They definately were not spring hatches. Not sure as to their age but not anywhere near the size of what they should have been if hatched during the spring mating season. Anyone ever experienced this or know what would cause a hen to raise her young this late ??? Definately a new one to me !
