Any cigar smokers here?

Postby Sailfish » Thu Apr 02, 2009 5:28 am

Just wondering.
I am not a daily cigar person, but on a Friday or Saturday if given the opportunity I like to fire one up.

Just wondering if their are any others hunters on here who do the same.
I usually keep only about 15-20 in my humidor, and I generally buy local.

I know there are auction websites out there some folks use.

Just making some conversation.

I have to say  there are times when we are camping, I like a swisher sweet tip and a few ice cold Natural Lights around the camp fire.

I used to smoke cigarettes . I had my last one at 8am Dec 24 , 1979 . My dad had smoked all his life and died of lung cancer the previous month . He was only 66 .
I had tried smoking cigars but couldn't stand the smell . When someone would light one up I thought it smelled like the landfill was on fire .

Sorry for your loss.

Funny thing I have always loved pipe and cigar smell. Hated cigarettes.
Literallyni can almost vomit from the smell of them

Well tonight is a celebration! I have finally finished hanging the drywall!!!
I have taken this opportunity to break out one of my Ashton's and a nice cocktail or two to go with it.

Buttery and easy on the tongue ;-)

Some smoke reviews from the last month:

Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva.
Not bad, 6.5 out of 10.
Burned nice, smoked nice, just didn't have something that I enjoy in a cigar
probably won't buy another

Hoyo De Monterrey Govenor
Ok cigar, nothing spectacular, actually it didn't burn well for me. Mild to medium.
I would not purchase this again.

Diamond Crown #3
Buttery, average draw, mild/medium and absolute gem of a cigar. I could fill my humidor with these!!!! Exquisite

Ashton San Cristoba 5.5 X 44
More spicy than my taste, a looong draw, I would call it complex though in it's taste. I am no expert so I looked it up, and it mentioned (Hearty notes of earth, cedar and spices are accompanied by lighter notes of walnuts, espresso and dark chocolate). I certainly couldn't pick all that out but my tongue did tell me something like that was going on :-)

601 Reserva Limitada
Very nice, medium/mild smoke. I did not remember to a write an personal assessment on this a couple weeks ago. I do remember I liked it enough to save the wrapper so I could purchase again ;-)

Oh, I really like a good cigar, but there's only one particular type I will smoke.

I used to smoke a cigar every now and then when out having a few drinks with some friends but I havent had one in forever.

I remember on a birthday of mine I went out and purchased some mammoth cigars (Don't remember the name right off hand I just bought them because they were huge) to enjoy that night. One of my friends was a little tipsy and she wanted to try one since she had never tried a cigar before. It was night time and I remember seeing the glow of a burning cigar and watching it disappear and then she said how nasty it was. She put it in her mouth backwards[:D]
Put me on a mountain, way back in the backwoods
Put me on a lake with biggin' on the line
Put me around a campfire cookin' something I just cleaned

Sailfish, have you ever tried an Acid cigar. I know what you all are thinking but that is just the name. They are are 15-20 min cigar with a very good flavor I prefer the blondes.

I used to, but I quit smoking altogether in Feb 08. Used to smoke standards like Punch, Macanudo, Cohiba. Nothing special. Sometimes I miss a good smoke, though.
