I had mentioned something similiar once too.

I thought maybe even have something like a small pic instead of stars:
deerhead = newbie
spike  =25 - 49 posts,
fork = 50 -199
6pt = 200 - 499
8pt = 500 - 999
10pt = 1000 - 1999
12pt  = 2000 +

etc

Or something like that.
