Marking my sights

I want to mark my sights now that I seem to be set.

I was thinking about marking the pin sight with nail polish.  Is this a good or bad idea?

I want to take off the light bracket mounted on the top for my horizontal adjustment to make a new bracket.  I was hoping there is a way to not start from scratch once I get that done.

Any ideas appreciated.
