when tryin 2 paper tune your bow how far should your arrow travel before goin thru the paper ?

not very far, you want to usally have it go like a foot or two at the most.

I was told you want a couple yards because your arrow bends and flexes allot right as you're shooting.

I believe 8 feet is the norm.  Anyone hear different?  That is what mine was tuned at and I am very happy.  Panman

6 to 8 ft from the bow. Paper tuning is only truly effective if you are using proper form, any torque in the shot will give you a false reading as will shooting too long a draw with a poor release.

wow 6-8 feet? im kinda susprized by that answer. ive taken my bow to three different shops here and have watched them do the paper test. they dont go very far from the paper, and i know they dont go 6-8 feet. seems to me they always went a short distence from it. now i know 6-8 isnt that far, but it seems they always went 1,2 feet and 3 pushing it.

You have to give the arrow enough room to clear the bow and begin its recovery. This distance should be no less than 2 arrow lengths.

the bow tech at the shop where i take my bow always goes about 6 feet, he says too that you need room for your arrow to recover from the oscillation of the shot. i just read an article in petersons bowhunting magazine (online article) about tuning, they say paper tune at 6 feet, then once you have it tuned, back up another couple of feet and shoot again. when shooting through paper, you can get it tuned perfectly at one distance, but it may only be tuned at that exact distance, so to tune it at two distances. as the arrow rotates in flight you may get a different tear by moving back a little. once you have it good at 6 and about 8 feet, it should be good. i just did that with my bow and it shoots great. ive also heard different things about the distance when paper tuning, but ive been going with the 6 to 8 feet, and it seems to work good for me and my set up.

Paper tunning is just a good rough first step. You bow can be good and tuned and still get a funny rip in the paper from perhaps a bad release. Walk back tunning should be more scrutinized.
