mast crop

Postby wolf60 » Sun Aug 30, 2009 8:09 am

Is there any way to predict the mast crop for this fall? Four years ago I hunted a ridge top that was literally covered with red and white acorns. As a result I had deer there every day. There were scrapes and rubs everywhere.Since then the mast crop has been really poor. As a result, there is very little deer activity there in the last 4 years. I loved hunting that spot because of how beautiful it was. I still hunt there every once in awhile because it is such a nice place even though I see very few deer there lately. Is there a cycle that the mast crops go through? Can I expect to have a good crop sometime in the near future? If any one has an idea about this I would appreciate a response. I have heard that every 4 or 5 years you could expect a bumper crop but so far it hasnt happened.
