2010 ohio hunting journal

Postby 3 to 1 » Thu Sep 09, 2010 2:05 pm

Its that time of the year again. Archery season starts in a few weeks. Heres a place to let fellow hunters in your area, district, or county know whats going on and to compare notes. If you tag something, put in a pic'. Good luck and be safe.

I'll be bow hunting in Lake county again this year.  Last year was the worst year for seeing deer that I've had in a long time.  Hopefully things are better this year.  All my stands are up and ready to go.  Just counting down the days!!   Good luck everyone.

I have been waiting for archery season to start since early summer. This will be the first season since I've been married (almost 25 years) to be fully dedicated to hunting. Now that the kids are mostly grown, 2 in college and 1 a senior in high school there has been more time to scout, plan, and set stands. Up until last week I have been watching 2 nice bucks feed in a bean field but now that the bean leaves are dry and the acorns are dropping like crazy in the woods they haven't been seen. Hope to run into one or both of them soon. The weather has been pretty dry the last 6 weeks in Mercer Co., which mean the crops will be coming off early and the deer will be forced out of the corn and into the woods. Thats good news!

Enjoy the season, and Good luck!!!!

JHBB,

I will be hunting the east side of Lake county, too. Your right last year was the worst for deer sightings, however, I did take my best deer ever; a 4 1/2 yr old. ten pntr. I think the temps. were to hot last year and most of the activity was at nite even during the rut (just my opinion). Keep me posted on your progress.

Nice job 3 to 1.  If it's the buck on your profile pic, it sure is a good one.  Hopefully it was just the weather last year.

Sat. 9/25 & Sun. 9/26:
Lake county (NE ohio):

Didn't see anything Sat. evening. Weather was cool but, breezy.

Sun. evening saw two bucks sparing on the way to my hunting grounds. Saw a doe and two small ones in another field walking out of the farm. It was nice and mild air & partly cloudy. A friend from work called and said he filled his doe tag sunday morning. How'd everybody else do?

Between my wife, dad, and I; we hunted six stands and three properties with no luck. Not only did we not see any deer....I discovered that one of my best tree stands was stolen over the summer. Not a good start to the season. I believe the early harvest and/or full moon hurt us this weekend.  I hope everyone else faired better than us!
