[left][font=tahoma]Cooperative Agreement Opens 6,885 Acres for Public Hunting[/font][/left][font=tahoma][/font] [/align][font=tahoma]Print Map[/font][/align][font=tahoma][/font] [/align][font=tahoma]ATHENS, OH - American Electric Power (AEP) has placed 6,885 acres of Meigs and Gallia counties into a cooperative management agreement with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. This agreement allows for public hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing opportunities on the property.[/font][/align][font=tahoma][/font] [/align][font=tahoma]"AEP has been a corporate partner with the Division of Wildlife for more than 50 years" states Mark Hemming, Division of Wildlife district manager for southeastern Ohio. "At AEP there is a strong conservation ethic – they have played an integral role in creating outdoor opportunities in Ohio."[/font][/align][font=tahoma][/font] [/align][font=tahoma]In addition to the public hunting area, AEP has placed approximately 1,015 acres located in the Parker Run Watershed (Meigs County) included in a Conservation Easement Agreement with the Meigs County Soil & Water Conservation District for the purpose of maintaining Parker Run and Leading Creek in a natural scenic condition. [/font][/align][font=tahoma][/font] [/align][font=tahoma]With the added acreage at the Gavin Wildlife Area, AEP now has 67,855 acres of land in cooperative agreements with the Division of Wildlife in nine counties, including Athens, Coshocton, Gallia, Guernsey, Meigs, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble & Perry counties.   Recreational users of any AEP agreement lands must obtain a free permit before entering the property. Permits may be obtained by calling 1.800.WILDLIFE or online at www.aep.com/environmental/recreation/recland/permit.aspx [/font][/align][font=tahoma][/font] [/align][font=tahoma]The Gavin property is part of the AEP Gavin Plant ownership, as well as a portion of the former AEP Southern Ohio Coal Company Meigs Mine ownership. AEP operated the Southern Ohio Coal Company mines from 1972 until 2001. AEP continues to be one of the major owners of land and mineral properties in Southeastern Ohio.[/font][/align]
