Used farm equipment

Postby bullwinkle » Sun Feb 08, 2009 4:28 am

With this economy my new food plot implement dreams for 2009 are quickly evaporating.  Really wanted to buy this equipment new, but I will settle for used.  I am looking for:

8-10 ft 3pt cultipacker
7-8ft tiller
8-10ft disk - can be 3pt or wheels

I dont have the $20K to buy these new this year.  Does anyone know a good used farm equipment dealer?  Stevens Point, Appleton, GB, Wausau area would be reasonable for me to check out.  If you have the dealer name and city, I can find the phone number

Thanks

Most new implement dealers are also used dealers...you can also contact your local CO-OP. There should be bulletin boards that the farmer post available equipment, or they may know off hand who may be selling. Most farmers...especially up here have many used pieces that they do not use, are available, but they do not advertise for sale. That is where your CO-OP contact comes in...or you can post an ad there saying what you are looking  for.
You can also google for used farm equipment in Wisconsin, then narrow it down to your general area.

Just my two cents

Welcome Bullwinkle!

Mtnman has some good advise there, I've been looking for a smaller disc and cultipacker my self. This past week I called a few implement dealers around me and they pretty much said good luck! I think your best bet is gonna be doing what mtnman said and just keeping an eye out in farmers yards and stopping in by them. I also plan on attending some farming auctions. If worse comes to worse we'll end up buying some King Kutter stuff from Fleet Farm.

Thanks for the idea of the co-op.  I plan on working the phones tomorrow.

Have you tried Craigslist? Here's the link to Wisconsin Craigslist, do a search and put your own free WANTED add up. http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/us/wi

wack Craig's List is a great idea.  Bullwinkle, couple places around Stevens Point are Faivre Implement 715-592-4300,  Big Iron 715-344-3401, Eron 715-457-6784, Ray's 715-344-8632, Service Motor 715-592-4111.  Another place that I see has a bulletin board with all types of equipment on it is Jerry's Small Engine Supply 715-592-4366.  Good luck.

Wow, Brett's pretty much into everything.  Football, hunting, farm equipment.  How does he do it all?

Craigslist is awesome. I've found great deals on all kinds of stuff, but you have to be fast and look everyday or what ever it is your after will be gone. I sold a friends car hauler that he'd been trying to sell for over a year. He spent a lot of money advertising in news papers. I put it on Craigslist for him for free, with pictures and it was sold in a few weeks. They don't allow guns but I see a lot of bows and hunting equiptment. The farm equiptment section get's a lot adds, sooner or later you'll find exactly what you want. The further down the list you go, the older the add, the lower price I offer.

There's a guy in New London, his name is Irv Cummins or something similar hes located on 54. He's got some nice stuff for food plotting and is reasonable.
We got a 6.5 disc from him for $400 that sells at Fleet Farm for $650
He had some 2 bottom plows, cultipackers, disc's, and planters there when we where there.
