If I were to take up the chase with an arrow projectile, I'd still prefer to use a bow (recurve and/or longbow) vs. the crossbow, but do believe that it will allow for more opportunity to get new hunters interested in the sport. Maybe they'll grow tired of the crossbow and move to a regular bow or look for additional challenge and try a recurve and/or longbow.
I personally think it's much ado about nothing. I think you'll see the same thing we are seeing with the wolf hunt. Lots of participants the first year or two and then the luster will wear off when they realize they still need to be where the deer are and are now limited to a shorter effective range than they are with a gun.
