New Deer Hunting Rules

Does anyone know when the new rules get finalized? I am most interested in the new rule for rifles in Waupaca County. Now is the time to move stands and get ready for the fall. This is a significant change that I want to take full advantage of.

I don't think anything is finalized until at least the end of June.

The new deer hunting regulations are now posted on the DNR site.

Looks like the jury is still out on Waupaca county. The 2011 hunting regulations say, "Rulemaking to allow rifles in Waupaca County has been proposed and may be in effect by Fall 2011. Contact the DNR for details." Looks like you'll still have to wait and see about moving your stands.

On another note, looks like they really increased the number of regular units this year. The last two years up Unit 38 near Eagle River it has been buck only, this year they're selling 4000 antlerless tags. Two years ago the five of us barely saw anything, I was lucky enough to have two bucks chase two does right past my stand, getting my first buck when the second chasing buck stopped to see where the first three went. Last year the same five guys saw a total of 3 does. Interesting that they're jumping back to a regular unit so quick.

I just forked out $1300 for my new old betsy - Tika 300 WSM, SS with a 3x9 Ziess. Shot it last weekend, the deer don't have a chance

It will be a big bummer if those rules don't get changed. Everyone is planning for it. I moved 3 ladder stands to prepare already.
