Crossbows rejected again, this time by WI gun deer hunters

Postby retch sweeny » Mon Jun 06, 2011 5:35 am

Annually, the WI DNR conducts a gun deer hunter mail survey. Last year was the first time they asked gun hunters the following question.

"Do you support making the crossbow a legal weapon for use during the archery deer season for any Wisconsin archery hunter?”

This same question has been asked on the bowhunter mail-in survey (conducted every 4 years) in 2005 and 2009 this question was rejected by the majority of bowhunters asked via the DNR’s mail in survey.

This question has been asked to several different user groups including bowhunters and to general sportsmen via the CC spring hearings in 2005 and 2011 and in every case, the majority of respondents asked has rejected full inclusion. The newly released results from the DNR’s gun deer hunter survey shows that once again, crossbow full inclusion is rejected by the majority of respondents asked. This most recent survey of gun deer hunters shows 55% say NO to full inclusion. WI has 650,000 gun deer hunters and 250,000 bowhunters meaning the majority ( 400,000 ) gun hunters do not bow hunt and its clear they are not in favor of crossbow expansion in the archery deer season.

This does not come as a surprise as full inclusion has never seen majority support for as long as the question has been asked. You can view the survey results at this link.

The "gun hunters" also rejected the use of archery equipment during the traditional 9 day gun season.

This is simply more chest pounding by "archery hunters" who are chock full of themselves.

Actually its just another indication of the opinions of WI deer hunters as captured by the WI DNR. It is what it is. No need to get all whinny. Its just a bit of news from the DNR web site. ;)

No one whinny as you put it! You are correct it is what it is! The gun hunters voted against archery in the 9 day rifle season & the political appointee's, lawyers & lobbyist WHINED and convinced politicaly appointed WI DNR to ignore the MAJORITY wishes & go with the political choice! It's just another instance to prove the politically appointed DNR did not listen to the hunters of Wisconsin! IF the DNR had kept archery out of the rifle season & kept crossbows out out at least they would be listening to the wishes of the WI hunters. It is very clear that the new look DNR no longer has the best interest of the WI hunter. They will vote the way the political favors dictate! Politic's make strange bedfellows!!! Too bad for the hunters of WI!! All you talk about is the "majority" BUT when it is ignored to the WBH favor you support it! Shady politics......Imagine THAT!!!! :D

Uhmmmmmm, Yeah, ok. Anyway. No need to get all bent. Its just another DNR hunter survey that again showcases the continued opposition to crossbows in the archery deer season. Its just a bit of news. You can try to make it something other than what it is if you like. My guess is you guys argue with the TV screen and newspaper pages when they report something you wish did not happen (as if it will somehow change the results.) As I said, this comes as no surprise and in fact, I predicted this very result a month or so ago. ;)

Why run these polls? The political appointees & the lawyers & lobbyists of the WBH will not allow a true majority vote to take place! As you said it "is what it is"!! The WBH wanted into the gun season & it got what it wanted eventhou the majority voted against it! Money & political appointee's can work wonders. Add to that the WBH did not want any early gun seasons in THEIR season! Their political favors got them that also! So they wanted to hunt in the rifle season & did not want rifles in theirs.....selfish......EXACTLY as I predicted months ago!!

You will have to ask the DNR. I don’t know how things are done in your state but in WI, the DNR has been conducting these sorts of surveys for decades.

Really? I thought that is what the Conservation Congress does. Can you explain how the WBH did not allow a true majority vote to take place?

You would do well to educate yourself on this subject because you are making false claims. When did WBH vote or lobby to be able to bowhunt during the gun deer season? You will find that did not happen. This came from the highest levels of the CC, not the WBH. But then truth and facts never really mattered to you.

I wish but in this case, this was not as a result of WBH. At no time has WBH petitioned or sought the ability to bowhunt during the gun deer season. If you followed the history of this change over the years, it was all done via the CC and happened this year due to a certain CC top level leader advancing this idea through the DNR.

Actually (and if you really are interested in the truth and history of this), you will see that this too comes from repeated votes within the Conservation Congress. Its all well documented over the years.

I cant recall a fellow so wrong (but certain he is right even though its clear your dealing with flawed info.) when all the history of this is so well known and documented but it might be a result of Timmy living in PA and never having hunted or lived in WI and being new on the scene. You hope to apply a great deal of power and strength to WBH (far more than it deserves) so thanks for that. ;)
