is this bad?

Postby flag155 » Sun Sep 08, 2013 9:01 am

i just recently went to check my trail cam that i put out over a mineral site. i got 47 pictures in one day. it was what looks to be a young but tall spike that is still in velvet. the bad thing is he came at 9:00 pm and stayed until like 12:30 - 1:00 am. does this mean it is a nocturnal buck cause deer season opens up this month.

Deer feed at a lot of different times throughout the day, so catching a deer on camera at night does not mean that deer is strictly a nocturnal animal. They are most active between an hour before sunset and and an hour after sunrise though, especially when the weather is warm.
My pursuit of a buck of a lifetime is much like the Chicago Cubs pursuit of a World Series...the season ends with a "wait til next year"

I wouldn't get to worried about it yet. Like 4khorn said, they feed at different times throughout the day. Plus, when the rut really gets fired up young bucks will be moving well into daylight hours if not all day.
