One DDH reader emailed me and wanted to know if there is anything that can be done for deer during these hot, humid times of summer as far as insects are concerned. Charles Alsheimer raises deer and he provided this answer:
"No. There is nothing anyone can do about the insect problems
whitetails have......trust me the insect stress they experience in the
summer is beyond incredible......it is sad to see. If fact, today it
is close to 90 here and the flies are pummeling my deer. Last night I
watched a doe (in the wild) and the flies were driving her crazy."
In short: It is just another part of nature that we cannot control.
