Antler Sheds

Postby cjgaleana » Sun Mar 13, 2011 6:17 am

Was wondering when do the bucks start shedding their antlers? I have read that they will start shedding as early as late February early March, and can happen for some as late as May. I'm up here in Michigan and was wondering what everyone else has to say about this. If your from Michigan, let me know when you see sheds. Appreciate all the posts. Love the forum.

I would say most have shed already...But like you said it can vary. I'm in west-central, WI, and I know of friends that have trail cam pics of bucks still carrying.

I saw 2 bucks in my yard on Christmas day with shed antlers. I've looked every where and never found them.

I once killed a buck that had dropped its antlers before christmas. I was sick. Just figured it was a big doe in the low light. Anyway, typically end of December through Feburary in MD and VA. But I have jumped bucks in turkey season that still had their racks and that isn't until april. But that is highly unusual. We found these huge sheds while turkey hunting in Virginia's National Forest www.deer30outdoors.com/hunting/deer/tro ... /dsc01209/ There is a 2nd pic in the Trophy Room gallery that shows the bases next to a soda can!
