How did everyone make out this weekend with all of that wind and rain?

I got out Monday morning after the weather broke. Had 3 does come in at 8:30, directly under my stand and from behind. Squirrels had been making noise all morning behind me and the deer caught me with my pants down (no, not literally). When the largest doe moved off to 20 yards and posed perfectly broadside, I picked a hole through the brush (no shooting lane in that direction of course) and proceeded to deflect an arrow directly into the dirt a yard short of her.

That was a "gimme" shot. And, I might add, there's no such thing as a gimme.

Damn!

The bright side is that she didn't know I was there, and just trotted calmly off, just slightly startled.

My cousin missed a doe on Sunday. She had no clue and he actually got a second shot and tagged her.

Good luck man.

Thanks, you too!

Funny you should mention your cousin's story, because from this stand last year, I deflected on a doe who came back five minutes later and I managed to arrow her. I'm not a fan of cutting shooting lanes when there are natural openings, but that's twice in two seasons that the deer came in from unexpected directions...

I hope to get back out there this weekend. Lots of rain and wind here, again.
