White Deer

Postby gunther89 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 11:56 am

Finally got a clear picture of the white deer that we have been seeing on our hunting property.  she has a brown spot under eye and she has brown tips on her ears.

I would have to shoot it and have it mounted just cause it is different.

Everyone in our hunting area has already decided we are going to let it walk.  Everyone enjoys seeing it in the fields, our only fear is that when the corn fields get cut that someone is going to poach her.

thats cool, ive never seen a white deer. where you from? here in wisconsin we cant even shoot white deer, gotta let them walk. you've maybe seen the various hunting shows featuring a huge white buck thats been around southern wisconsin for a few years, people have been getting footage of him for a couple years and finding his sheds. i think he is around 7 years old, maybe 8, this year, assuming he's still walking. as of last fall he was still around.

vipermann7 I hunt in southern Wisconsin and since it has brown ear tips and a brown spot under her eye she would be considered a legal deer since she isn't an albino but nobody is going to shoot her.

I believe she is legal because any white or albino deer is now ok to shoot in the CWD zones. I know I wouldn't shoot it because it would be cool to have more white deer in an area.

because she has some brown on her makes her fair game here in il. however i would have to let her walk. the native americans thought pure white animals to be sacred and felt it to be a bad omen to kill one.

It's against the law to harvest totally white deer in IL., but if ther is a colored patch of fur, the deer is fair game. I'd put her out of her misery as well! Besides how many chances in your life would a hunter get a shot at a white deer anyway. I wouldn't pass up the trophy of a lifetime ethier.[;)]

I'm afraid I'd have to let her walk.  It would be cool to watch here over the years and see if she drops fawns.

Plus she can't pass along her genes if she's dead, and letting her walk might mean seeing more like here.
