I've got a NEF Handi Rifle, now the H&R Handi Rifle, my friend has the Ruger #1, both in 30-06. The Ruger is much heavier, can't compare finish because mine is blued his is stainless steel but both guns are extremely accurate. Mine kicks a little harder, but is easier to carry, I like my trigger better but that's a matter of opinion, he paids about 4 times the price as you would for the H&R. I also don't know if the Ruger has the option of different barrels on the same gun but as mentioned by Howhill1 you can get barrels for the H&R fairly cheap but unlike T/C you have to send the gun in to have new barrels fitted. A small hassel but great bargain. I'd recomend the stainless steel H&R since IMO the blueing is the weakest part of my 18 year old Handi Rifle but my gun has hunted in all kinds of weather and has never let me down. The only complaint I've heard about the Handi Rifle is the trigger. I used to have my FFL and sold several. The person complaining about the trigger sent the gun in and they fixed it and IMO and the owners, he went from a good trigger to a great trigger and at the same time, he had 2 barrels fitted, if I remember right he got a 410 barrel and 20 ga rifled slug barrel added to his 30-06 and took about 2 months to get the gun back with trigger and barrels. That may have changed, they were NEF back then.
