where do you hunt over during per rut and what calls do you use?

If your refering to oct 20th and later, hunting downwind of scrapes can be good or I like sitting on field edges because the bucks seem to come out and harrass the does. I also like to break out the buck decoy around this time on fields. For calls Ill use the regular grunt tube and maybe some rattling a little later.

Despite having several hundred acres of access, I don't have many different options for treestands (ie. pre-rut vs rut stands).  The area I hunt is 95% crops....very flat.
 
Regarding calls used during pre-rut, I believe soft contact grunts and bleats can be used.  Even some gentle rattling might be effective.

I know with our land I like to sit 20 yards off the food plot into the cedar swamp and catch a buck scent checking the field from the swamp from 50 yards back. Once he sees the girls at ease in the field he comes into range stops and game over.
