SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED: 520 ILCS 5/2.26 from Ch. 61, par. 2.26
Amends the Wildlife Code. Provides that the Department of Natural Resources's rules concerning a "Deer Hunting Permit" shall provide that a hunter shall be issued an antlerless deer permit prior to the issuance of an antlered deer permit. Provides that a hunter must contact the Department and report to the Department the taking of 2 antlerless deer before a hunter may be issued a permit to take an antlered deer. Removes language concerning deer hunting permits that are issued as (i) a combination permit, (ii) a single antlerless-only permit, and (iii) a single either-sex permit.

EAB was terrible in Wisconsin... We were required to kill 1 antlerless in order to kill a buck. Almost 50% of the antlerless deer harvested were button bucks. Public land was murdered because every hunter on the land was required to kill a doe 1st.
After they met there goals they refused to stop and the deer numbers kept going down... Some places are like a ghost town.

Apparently it was assigned to the Agriculture Committee on 2/17/12.

My guess is that it will die there. I hope.

any idea who is on the Ag committee, or if they are looking for opinions from residents on the issue?

All I can say is that for the last 2 years, I have been seeing just as many if not more bucks than does in the area I hunt. I've read about EAB programs, and it can be beneficial in areas with highly skewed buck/doe ratios or severe overpopulation. If there are areas that need it (I think Starved Rock State Park ground is EAB, for example) then it's not a bad idea. What would be a bad idea would be to apply these rules to the entire state. That's like cutting off your hand for a hangnail...
