I guess that qualifies as close proximity... think he was following the river or whatever it is that's there?

There is a bit of farm land that flows down between the river and rt23. It comes within a couple of miles of that cloverleaf. I suspect he came in that way, but it's just a guess. He had to be traveling through back yards, or down the roads to get there.

The reason it may not help is because Coyotes are known to respond to hunting pressure biologically by having more and/or larger litters. Also, there is something about the dominant male (alpha male) of the social group (pack). I dont remember if its good or bad to take him out of the picture...maybe its bad because then the pack splinters into 2 or 3 smaller packs each around different males and then all those packs are reproducing instead of just one pack reproducing.( remember only the alpha male does breeding). The Sport of Predator/Coyote Hunting is getting more and more popular each year and I can tell You personally that if You stay at it and keep lowering the number of Predators it will help with the New-born Fawns,Turkeys Quails and so on!I have been hunting with my Calling Partner steady for the past 6 months and we have taken out around 5 male Coyotes and 6 Females mainly on the western end of our County and we have had a Predator Derby this past Jan that resulted in several Coyotes,Foxes and Bobcats harvested.


I have been Deer Hunting for many years and the thrill and adrenaline rush of Coyote Hunting is simply awesome and I can't get enough of it.We have been using an electronic caller a few times but mostly we have used different mouth calls with the Coyote Howls/Barks and several different Rabbit in distress calls,Jack Rabbit calls,bird calls and so on...the thrill of calling a Predator in Yourself and shooting them is the most exciting and rewarding thing I've ever done.I have also used the H.S. Feather Distractor and a Flambeau Coyote Decoy to get Coyotes to come in closer,there are so many different technics and strategies to use when Predator Hunting and if You have Bow Hunted or Rifle Hunted Deer You can use many of the same strategies to help You in Coyote/Predator Hunting.Scent Control is a good start,good camo/concealment,quietly going to and from Your stand/set-up locations,calling and good marksmenship all fall hand in hand.Its a demanding Sport that will try Your patients but in the end reward You with a job well done and a nice Coyote,Bobcat or Fox hide or mount to show off in Your Home and Trophy Room!
