Bad weather kept me out of the woods Monday, but managed to get out yesterday. Had set up a pop-up blind 2 weeks ago on the edge of the woods near some roosting trees. About 20 minutes before shooting time four turkeys started gobbling. After about 15 minutes I heard them fly down. Had a couple of decoys out and some quiet yelping convinced a jake come out into the opening and I shot him. It was over at 6:35 am.
One of the cool things about spring hunting in the woods is that every bird, insect and frog is singing and calling. The fall woods is much more quiet...in spring every living things is screaming at the top of their lungs.
Anyone been out yet?

killed a huge turkey last mon. morning. He was with two hens and he never gobbled at all. I blasted him that was that. 10" beard and 1 3/8" spurs. i'm a happy boy.

Thanks. I'm going back out sat. and next week. If you go out, good luck to you. By the way, my in-laws used to live in the Mentor area or the Painesville area long way back. Now they are back in Zanesville.

Mentor/Painesville has changed a lot of the years. 20 yrs ago we had cornfields, now it's Walmart. Too bad, but still a nice area.

Nice turkey. Good job OHIO FARMS. I'm trying turkey this spring for the first time. No luck yet, although I've only been out a couple of times and the spring season is ending soon (work'n wk-ends). I'm from Lake county too. My hats off to ya. Nice look"n turkey.

Nicely done Ohio! I haven't been out for turkey at all this year. 
and my place is spring only, so I may not get a chance at them at all. "madmacs0101" There ARE 5 turkeys in that shot.
