YES, YES, YES!!! It's impossible to use too much oil! I watch for it on sale and stock up when I can. My 4 stone set has an oil tray that sits underneath the stones so that the bottom stone is always submerged in oil. Messy? Yes.....but that's the whole point!

Speaking of messy, I sent you a surprise package as a product tester. Have you had a chance to see if it works? Was it worth the effort, or a waste of time? :?:

Not yet! I had to lay off all the people that worked for me, and I'm doing all the labor,sales, errands,material transport, and whatever. But I have a couple of knives that I use for work that are in DIRE need of attention so it will be soon. I'll keep you posted, and thanks again!

That's brutal. :( And think nothing of it. I wish you circumstances were better, or that there were something I could do about it.

Its probably lame, but I mostly need a REALLY sharp knife for fish filleting and it works for me
But I also use this for my other knives and find its pretty sharp.

That's a given. I would vote for a half trained monkey before Obama. Thankfully, there are several half trained monkeys to choose from. :( ;) :?

Use an Electric Sharpener. A good quality electric sharpener is an option, but I strongly discourage their use. First off, they remove a tremendous amount of material from your edge. Sharpen your knife a dozen times, and you've lost a good half-centimeter of width, throwing it off balance, and rendering any blade with a bolster (i.e. most high quality forged blades) useless. Secondly, even the best models provide only an adequate edge. If you don't mind replacing your knives every few years and are happy with the edge they give you, they are an option. But a much better choice is to...

Sharpening a knife is considered as a most difficult task. Stainless steel of today's time is very hard and it is more durable. you must have a very good quality sharpner for sharpening that perform removing of rough stock from knife and it must have a conclude surface of hard stone or ceramic abrasive.
The diamond and ceramic materials will cut the steel on the blade's cutting surface fastly and easily as these materials are harder than steel. A hard stone will also perform this task, but the stone is little harder than steel,so we have to apply more of our efforts on it. we can sharpen our knife in many ways:
Sharpening with a steel: Good Quality knives with high carbon/molybdenum/vanadium alloy have elasticity and can easily be arranged by a sharpening steel.
We should not use a diamond-coated steel or electric sharpening device for preserving its edge. These devices can spoil your turned edge. They are used for sharpen, but not for conserving .
Sharpening with a stone: you should use the stone only when your edge does not re-adjust with a steel. Means your edge has dampen from constant utilisation . you should be sure that you use the exact angle at 30 to 40 stroke before your new edge is generated. If needed use more strokes. The angle used it by how sharp you want the knife. More smaller the angle is the more sharper will be the edge. you should be aware that the sharper the edge the sooner it will fade. It need to be re-sharpened. If it is too tough to keep the correct angle, round your re-grinding process, take your knife to a 0-reputable knife grinding service in your area.Image
The main point in sharpening is the device you are using to take away the material from the blade must keep a uniform angle for you and not allow your efforts from stroke to stroke to change the angle of pressure you are putting on the cutting surface of the blade. If this angle relationship is changing from stroke to stroke, you will end up with a rounded edge that will feel sharp for a small period of time and dull fastly.
Many types of sharpners are available in market now a days to sharp the knife easily and safely.

I use one of the simple sharpening tools from amazon, doesn't do the best job but it works relatively well!
