Rifle Ranges Near Sauk City?

Postby DairyLandDeerHunter » Tue Oct 30, 2012 6:35 am

Good morning guys, I recently moved up to Sauk City from a small town in Southeastern Wisconsin, and was wondering if anybody is familiar with any rifles ranges near that area that are open to the public?

I'm looking to do some more shooting before the gun deer season and have been having trouble finding places near here that are close enough that I can just leave from work and head to the range. I appreciate any help and info!

Thank you!

There's a couple. If you're looking for shotgun ranges, head out on Hwy. 12 toward Baraboo to the Sauk Prairie Trap & Skeet Club.

I lived in Sauk City for a couple years. Great little town.

Thanks for the help Dan! I really appreciate it. I agree, Sauk is a very nice little town. My wife and I have enjoyed it so far.

Is Leystra's Restaurant next to the Kwik Trip when you cross the WI River bridge on Hwy. 12 still there? I lived in an apartment above the restaurant. Good fish fry on Friday nights. There's also a restaurant/bar at the Hwy 78/Hwy 14 T between Black Earth & Mazomanie that has really good food.

Wilderness Fish & Game is a pretty good store for sporting goods. Wally, Wayne & Larry are a pretty good bunch of guys and are pretty helpful with finding areas to hunt and fish in the area.

Yes, Leystra's is still there. I've been in Wilderness Fish & Game several time, and really like the people that work there. The prices for their product are very fair as well. I'm not sure if Mason's Pub and Grill was here when you lived here, but my wife and I stop there to eat once a week and a they have good food. We live next to the owners, and they are very nice people. Very polite and courteous when we come in.

I like the small town life. Both my wife and I grew up in little towns, so it's nice to get back to our roots. When did you leave Sauk?

Left in 2003. Have been trying to get to another place just like it since. Have lived in Racine and now Kenosha. Drive into the arm pit that is Illinois daily for work.

Ideally, would love to get up in the Fox Valley somewhere. Will have to wait until the construction industry rebounds a little more before that move will happen, oh and also get the missus to agree to not live in such a large metropolitan area.

I used to work for Wick Buildings in Mazo.

What area of construction are you in? I'm also working in the construction industry. I'm a project manager for Robinson Brothers Environmental in Waunakee. The Fox Valley is a nice area, I lived and worked in Oshkosh for a couple years several years ago.
