Live weight calculator?

Postby Patriot » Tue Nov 11, 2008 7:02 am

I saw a formula somewhere that multiplied the dressed weight by a certain percentage in order to determine live weight.

Anyone remember?  Is it 1.25 or some such figure (i.e. 175 pounds dressed weight x 1.25 = 219 live weight).

Thanks!

According to askthemeatman.com the formula is FDW X 1.26 = LW.

Thanks.  I thought I was close on the live weight calculation.  The thunderbucks calculator showed I should have 95 pounds of boneless venison.  I'm pretty meticulous when processing, but only ended up with 61 pounds.  I'm pretty certain of the 175 dressed weight though.

At the place we get our meat butchered we usually end up with about 50-60% of the field dressed weight as edible venison.  Just as a general rule from what I noticed the last couple of years.  The smaller the deer the lower the percentage.
