I got my first archery deer on Sunday. It is a young nine pointer. Probably a 2.5 year old. This is my first season archery hunting. Indiana just opened up all the archery season to crossbows. I bought a Kodabow Bravo Zulu model. It is a recurve with 200 pound draw. I missed a deer a on Oct. 28th and discovered my left limb was broken. Contacted Kodabow in PA to get replacement parts. Unfortunately hurricane Sandy had shut down air traffic and Fed Ex would not be able to pick up from them until Wednesday. Thankfully the parts arrived Friday afternoon. I had time to repair it and get it sighted in that day.
The shot was 27 yards downhill. I hit him high and the arrow stuck in his spine. That kept him from going too far, but I had to put a second arrow in him to finish him off.
Everything turned out great. An interesting side note is that his rack matches the big nine pointer I got last year on that property with my shotgun. They may both be from the same gene pool. Possible father and son in consecutive years. Who knows. The season is off to a great start. Now I need to fill my doe tags and take my dad and son hunting.
Good luck!
