Bad shot leads to buck dead in his tracks

Ok this deer should not be dead. Had a decent buck come in on the tail of a doe, I turned to get the shot and he froze in his tracks. As I aquired him in the scope his rear dropped down ready to jump, from 25 yards I fired aiming for the shoulder. He drop like a rock with just a twitch from his legs. Waited as another deer came in , a small spike, when he cleared I climbed down to gut my kill. To my suprise the only mark on him was graze wound just under the skin about where the ribs meet the stomach. The wound never even entered the body cavity, I had to cut through the muscle to gut him. will try and post pic when I get it down loaded. strange

Ever been punched in the solar plexus? It sounds like you might have gotten the equivalent of this buck. It's basically a bundle of major nerve ending and such... maybe you did enough damage with the shock of the bullet to actually literally give him a heart attack... Neat though.

I'm curious if you maybe discovered any other wounds after skinning/buchering?

Is it possible the belly wound was from something else and your round did enter the animal? Did you inspect the inside of the hide? I can never find the entry wound from my .270 in the outside hide, but always see it inside
