2012 Harvest Pictures

I took this 190lb (dressed) 9 point buck 7:30am Monday morning. He's the biggest buck that I've ever harvested. He has 8 long points and one small that just barely qualifies. B&C scores aren't very popular up here where body weight is king, but I'm going online to measure him anyway. I think he'll score between 120-140, but then again, I don't really know. I was still hunting and had been sitting behind a stump in a chopping for about 20 minutes, grunting occasionally when he started down the opposite ridge towards me. It was like shooting a buck again for the first time when I took him, talk about buck fever! I should've waited for a better shot; I pride myself on one-shot kills, but I needed three to do the job.

I did my own Boone & Crockett score for the first time myself and he actually scores 156! He had a 1" penalty for the 1" long irregular point. Keep in mind, this was my first time scoring a deer and I did it by myself with a piece of 1/4" rope and my handy Stanley measuring tape.

Congrats on all the nice bucks guys!! There are some really nice looking ones on here!! I wont be able to make it out bowhunting anymore before the rifle season starts here in WI so I'm hoping I'll get one then

not much really...all summer no bucks on cam...all bow I passed little bucks but took a doe...opening day I never shot and had no opportunities...So second day I went to ole reliable and sat...legal for deer was 7:04....I shot at a yote running through at 6:56...missed 2x's and my 20ga browning jammed...took me 15 frustrating minutes to fix!
All quiet until 8:27 when this guy came down the hill angling in front of me....moving at a good clip I looked ahead of him and found an opening 50yrds out and took aim....he stepped in and I squeezed off a 3" Benneke mag...he hunched up spun and jumped a few yards...then walked straight away taking baby steps...tail down and flickering fast...I lost track of him so I held tight...30 min later a young doe came in and milled around the area I last seen him...then came past me...I knew he was down....not a drop of blood until I got 5yrds from his body...then it was every where...he'd dropped in a grape over growth where there is a depression...deer bed there...he'd walked another 60yrds before expiring..

Well I had forgotten my gutting stuff on the porch...called Mr. B. for help...please bring tractor ...he's big...he said "don't you dare drag him"...well...I knew tractor couldn't get in here ...so I rigged the safety harness and started the 100yrd drag over the rough wooded terrain to lane way....I heard the harness tear at one point...I took many breaks ....didn't help I had my gun and was wearing my outer jacket and pants then...another fleece jacket...fleece shirt...and turtle neck and 2 pairs of fleece pants under my outer hunting pants...lol it was dang cold out there!...This buck had ZERO fat on him inside and out....field dressed 145# ..I honestly don't know how he would have made it through a cold winter...but his belly sure was full from eating all night....

I'm 32 and have been deer hunting every year since I was 12, save one. I got the first big buck of my life while sitting in my stand late yesterday in St. Croix County, Wisconsin. I couldn't be happier about it.
