Thank you! I took him with my Browning A-Bolt 25-06 at about 50 yards in hardwoods Sunday afternoon of opening weekend about 20 minutes before the end of shooting hours. I was in my climber on a tree that's let me see a lot of deer over the years. It's thick and hilly enough that's any shot I get from that tree will be less than 100 yards. I took the shot just as he entered my shooting lane, or maybe even before since I was a little too excited for proper thinking. He made it maybe 75 yards before falling over. There is pretty heavy hunting pressure on the surrounding properties, and I suspect he was spooked into moving around. We don't bait, but the neighbors do, so that makes the take a little sweeter.
My friend and butcher said he looked bruised all along one side, even back as far as the hindquarters. Said he might have been hit by a car. Or could have it been fighting? I didn't notice any external injuries. Anyone have any similar experiences?
