The best part about the squirrel my wife killed is that I skinned it out and kept the tail. I've seen better methods of preserving them since, but I stuck the meaty end of the tail in some salt for like 2 weeks to dry it up. Then I wrapped it up with some hemp twine and left some ends to be used as a tie.
In the play my wife and I directed this year 2 of the characters were "redneck squirrel hunting sisters", so we had the one girl wear the squirrel tail around on her belt. It looked awesome. Now it's hanging from the euro mount of her button buck on the wall and looks pretty cool.
