Age and score?

I don't score antlers. I don't even know how. But my general impression, would be about 3 1/2 on age. We will see when the experts weigh in if my bold guesstimate is close, or not.

I score antlers "on the hoof" as follows...

1. Hey! A deer. Is it a buck or a doe?

2. It's a deer....a BUCK deer.

3. WHOA!!!! Nice buck!!!!

4. HOLY $%&&*%$@#!!!! OMG!!!!


The one in your pic would be a #3 in my book.


Age? The only sure was is to check the wear of the tooth enamel on the molars. Most of us have to kill them first to do that because we just don't have the skills to get them to stand still long enough much less have them let us look in their mouths.

Buuuut......................If it were an Illinois deer (from farm country and not the suburban Chicago forest preserves) I'd gues that he was at least 2 1/2, but not more than 4 1/2.

I would put him in the mid 130s and at least 4 1/2. If scored officially, he would be scored as an 8pt, being that he has a G-4 on his right but none on his left.

I would have to guess the deer to be 4 1/2 +. With good mass and good tine length id have to put the score in the mid 140's.

I'd guess him at 4.5 yrs and in the 150-160" range. I don't do deductions.
