Weapon of choice?

Postby tgloden03 » Thu Dec 20, 2012 9:25 pm

I was wondering what weapon you guys prefer when hunting deer just to see what the majority of hunters prefer? Where I live we are allowed to use high powered rifles so my weapon of choice is my 270 WSM.

Mossberg 500, 12ga. sabot gun.
The only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker is observation. All the same data is present for both. The rest is understanding what you are seeing.

Firearm? I live in a shotgun only state, so my favorite firearm for that is my Browning A-Bolt slug gun topped with a Leupold VariX III 1.5X5 scope. It likes the Winchester Partition Gold sabots.

Archery? My Bear Super Kodiak 55# recurve. It's not a custom made bow, but that thing fits my hand like I was born with it.

I have never done any deer hunting with a shotgun. What type of ammo do you shoot?

I use sabot slugs. These specifically. They mushroom like a rifle bullet, and they are still supersonic at 180 yards. I'm zero'ed at 100 yards, and I don't have to worry about holdover until I'm at 150 yards.

I have a spent Winchester Platinum tip that I took out of a deer that I shot a few years ago. When I first found it, I was not sure what it was. It was perfectly shaped with multiple points sticking up. A just brutally looking thing. I have it at my farm so the next time that I go there I'll take a picture of it and post it. It looked like something that should be banned, except it really did a job on the deer.
It looks nothing like Woods Winchester Partition Golds

Rifle: either my savage.7mm rem mag with 175 grain nosler topped with a simmons atek for those long range spots 200 plus yards

Or my 30-30 marlin shooting 170 grain winchester ammo topped with a bushnell trophy scope for those close quarters or thick cover in the timber spots 100 yards or less..

Bow : I shoot a redhead kronik .. ( made by diamond archery) 65 lb.. 29 inch draw .... rage 3 blade broad heads carbon express arrows and nap quick spin vanes
In every hunt there is a trophy not always of the physical nature but in the experience....
