Podcast ideas

Postby shaman » Mon Dec 31, 2012 8:52 am

I am shortly going to receive some new sound equipment. I've taken to recording turkeys during the run up to season, and then recording my hunts. Both I edit down into podcasts and put on my weblog.

It occurred to me this weekend that I would not have to limit myself to turkeys and turkey hunting. Granted, deer do not lend themselves to the medium in quite the same way. They do not vocalize nearly as much. However, I'd love to give it a go. Podcasting has always intrigued me.

Let's just say I did a podcast. What would you like to hear?

Some How-To material?
Life at Deer Camp?
Reports from the Black Hole Institute of Whitetail Studies
The inside scoop on what goes on at the D&DH pro-staffer's secret clubhouse?
Sounds of the woods?
The ramblings of a 30 year+ deer hunter?

I'm open to ideas.

Anything from "How To" to your "Ramblings" would be interesting. Does D&DH have a secret handshake?

Here's a hoot. I went out to the web to see if there is a better way to manage podcasts in my weblog. I use WordPress ( same as this forum) for an engine. I figured I'd dig up a freebie plug-in that would organize them.

It turns out that the plug-in that most closely resembles what I wanted is a sermon manager. Now, Genesis 9:2-4 Ministries probably could use a sermon organizer one of these days-- right now that's KYHillChick, and she does a good job. I don't want to replace her. Besides that, the one I really liked had me entering all kinds of things like time of service, Old and New Testament text, etc.

Oh well, I'll just make do with what I have.

Here's another idea: Would the pro-staffers be up to joining me in a conversation some night? I'm thinking SKYPE-- or GoTo Meeting (if someone has an account) .

Just a few ideas to throw around...

How "shaman" got started hunting
How to stay motivated in the slowest of times in the woods over the years
Season Prepping...starting with shed hunts in spring through the last minute tweaking the week before the season starts (Some people overlook the value in hunting being a 365 day sport
Land preparation (food plots, feeders, hinge cutting, the works!!!)
Conservation (Land and Game)
Life at Deer Camp is easy to relate to and usually has some great stories!
Emerging Technologies (Broadheads, Bows, Guns, Ammo, Camo Gear, etc)
Idiots (Beginner's) guide to hunting...Whitetails, Turkeys, Small Game, Elk, Bear, Coyotes, or whatever else you have hunting experience with)
Styles of hunting (Archery, Muzzleloader, Stands, blinds, walking and stalking, blow guns, throwing knives!)

I know there is a ton of topics and picking "interesting" ones to start is a little harder, but I'm sure you'll pick the right one(s)!

Well, I got my first podcast up. Yes, it is the ramblings of an hunter.

Of Buffalo and Old Krauts

I hope y'all like it. I recorded a bunch of material this morning, so I'll have more up shortly.

Just finished listening to "Buffalo and old Krauts" A few minutes into it, my wife said to me, "what are you listening to?" Rather than go into a long explanation, I gave her a quick answer and put my earphones on. Once I became adjusted to your slow talking pace, I did enjoy the story and the tempo. It was interesting to actually hear the voice that was associated with the posts that I have been reading for the past few years. You sounded about right.
Will listen to more later.

I went back and listened. You're right. I am slow.

Luckily I had a tweak for that. Go back and try again. See if you hear the diff.

Listened to it again and the tempo was nice.
Also listened to Angus Scores. I've watched a lot of turkey hunting on TV, but this was very different hearing it on the "radio" instead. It forced me to conjure up the images in my mind, which was similar to reading a story. I will admit that I flinched when Angus fired and anticipating the shot added to the drama. Never experienced a hunt that way. Cool.
I'll listen to more soon and let you know.
