Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show Caves In

Postby Woods Walker » Tue Jan 15, 2013 9:07 pm

Caving in to political pressure.....ANYTHING related to AR type firearms has been pulled. I hope this event is an abject failure.

I guess they like licking the boot that's being put on their neck rather than pushing it away. Cowards....... :x

It should read like this...."Clearly we strongly supported the 2nd amendment until money, the bottom line was a factor. Our moral convictions are whatever dubious public opinion and the media tell us they should be . In other words, we have no spine."

The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show is a unique celebration of the authentic hunting and fishing traditions that are cherished by millions of Americans and their families. We are proud to celebrate these pastimes by featuring 1,200 exhibitors offering a diverse range of products from outfitters to fishing boats and RVs, from archery to art and from clothes to cabins.
As a hunting-focused event, we welcome exhibitors who wish to showcase products and firearms that serve the traditional needs of the sport. Clearly, we strongly support the 2nd Amendment. However, this year we have made the decision not to include certain products that in the current climate may attract negative attention that would distract from the strong focus on hunting and fishing at this family-oriented event and possibly disrupt the broader positive experience of our guests. ESS is proud to participate in the preservation and promotion of the rich hunting and fishing tradition passed from generation to generation by American families.

Yes, this is pretty sad. Especially since ARs are so different from other rifles. Can we have a gun show with only less-lethal looking guns? Huh?

I wouldnt really say its "sad", but i get where you are coming from. Personally I dont care. I dont go to hunting and fishing shows to buy AR's. I go for free chew.

I believe with all the boycotts, they are literally going to cave in. Glad to see the hunting/shooting community stick together on something.

People in Pennsylvania are crazy about attending this show. Surrounding states, too. It's huge -- takes more than a day to see everything.

They're crazy about not attending, too. There is a Facebook page pushing a boycott of the show, and over 10,000 people "like" it (more than like the ESOS Facebook page.) If all 10,000 people represent a 1-day ticket at $14.00, that's a loss of $140,000. Realistically, more than 10,000 people will boycott it. And if early show goers come out with negative reports, the attendance through the week is likely to fall off.

The number of known exhibitors who have decided not to go is somewhere around 200, and the show is still 10-days away. Most of the event speakers have decided not to go: Tiffany & Lee, Pat & Nicole, Shockey, and many, many more. Cabelas pulled out as a major sponsor early. The two other major sponsors are the Outdoor Channel and Progressive Insurance. This is a big deal in and around PA -- it's the biggest consumer show of it's kind.

Hats of to those speakers who have decided not to go! THAT is where the pressure will start!

I'd love to see the Duck Dynasty crew not go either. That would be a real blow.
