dead 17pt buck found 4/11/13

I found this buck 4/11/13 in randolph co il along the Kaskaskia river.

The only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker is observation. All the same data is present for both. The rest is understanding what you are seeing.

He is a nice one. I see no tag on it. In Illinois they changed the law on finding dead bucks back to haveing the DNR come out and put a non removeable tag on it. For years it was this way. Then for a few years you only had to have it taged if you were going to have it mounted. Last year they changed it back to all haveing a DNR tag on it.
Also, it is a wise thing to fasten the license of any mounted deer to the back of it. If for any reason the DNR comes into your home the proof of taking this deer legally is right there. If there is any question of any mount in your possession, YOU have to prove it was taken legally.

I contacted conservation and they came out and gave me a number that is engraved under the skull. He told me that I would only need the yellow tag if I was to take the mount to a taxidermist.

How long did they stay there,and how many questions did they ask you about the dead found buck?

They just stayed long enough to give me the number. Most of the questions were over the phone before he showed up. Here is the pic of the deer when i found it. I cant attach a smaller pic, not sure why it wont let me
