Who's In Charge Here?

Postby Woods Walker » Thu Nov 14, 2013 6:55 pm

I've noticed that there's beginning to be more SPAM gathering here again, and I've also noted that Ben Sobiek hasn't visited here since this past March.

So who do we notify when we start getting posts for Ugg boots in Engrish?

I've noticed both those issues too. Another thing that I have noticed is that D&DH mag., for a while now, has stopped including any excerpts from the forum. Seems to have been replaced with Tweets and Facebook. Perhaps the Forum has lost it's charm. We do squabble a bit here. (Even JPH is MIA)

J'per left last spring after the gun rights debate in the wake of Sandy Hook. And I've noticed the absence of any forum posts in the magazine also. I guess social media is the way to go now. That leaves me out!

I predict that this forum is not long for this world!

Since it seems that we have been left to our own devices, why don't we elect someone here to replace Ben the Moderator. I'm kind of kidding, but why not do it?
I do remember JPH's last visit. I think your comment on porn put him over the edge. I did not agree with him on a lot of issues, but it's too bad that he has not returned. I give him credit...he was involved.

Anybody try emailing Ben? I still get the "Living Ready" survival/prepper type emails, and I believe Ben is the editor for that...

I don't think it's a good idea to just stop visiting the site, or assume it's "coming to an end." The mechanics of the forum still work and they serve the purpose of bringing hunters together and spreading information on hunting/trapping, etc. I wouldn't worry that much. At the very worst, I'd say we elect someone to take over the forum - I liked that idea.

Just my humble opinion,

I've noticed similar sorts of things.

I doubt that this forum is going away soon, but I will say it has not had much in the way of editorial leadership in a while.

Be aware that somebody IS cleaning out the spam. It may not as fast as before, but spam IS getting cleaned off. So that means SOMEBODY with SYSADMIN privledges is maintaining the site. That is a poor substitute for strong leadership, but it beats a forum gone wild.

Do me a favor y'all. Just in case we have a worse-case scenario, be sure to go to my weblog and sign up. If we suddenly find ourselves separated, we can all agree to meet at my place and then I can work at coming up with a new plan.

This site is at least working and we are able to use it without any problem. If you want to see a disaster and total fustercluck, visit the NAHC site. We've lost 95% of our members over there, since Gordy Krahn took over and allowed the IT people to reorganize and update the site. It's not even user friendly, and on top of everything else, the moderators have stopped communicating after all of the complaints and problems. There used to be over 850,000 registered members, but now there are fewer than 15,000 and I'm certain there aren't but about 20 or so active posters. Prior to the change I, had over 13,000 posts, and I wasn't even the most active member. Now, after the changes, we lost our posts counts, and even our membership status. Many people had to change their user names just to get logged back into the site, and just today, I've gotten 5 different "sorry the site is down because it's busy or down for maintenance" messages. At least, when I log in here, I don't get kicked back out and can actually access and read the different threads and posts. So, be thankful that apparently someone, even if it's an automated system is keeping this site working!!!!!!!!

I don't really think that the forum is going away, but I do agree Ben has not been heard from for a while. I kind of miss his succinct message of "knock it off" when we sort of stepped on the line, but not quite over it.
