Hunting & the wind

Postby jr 1968 » Fri Nov 15, 2013 9:07 pm

Got a question on Sunday the wind is suppose to gust up to 40+. Where in the woods should I go
to find deer?

The wind here has been bad, I have been out but have had not seen a thing.

Thanks everybody,

Oh boy...I LOVE this kind of day! Go to where the deer can get out of the wind, such as gullys, hollows, ravines, ditches, etc. If they have good cover and are close to a food source then that's all the better. Even CRP ground that has tall grass in it is good as they will bed in that tall grass to get out of the wind. Edges of marshes can be good too.

The downside is that when you do find them there may very well be a lot of them and if you bust them out you need to find another spot.

If your ground is small and/or doesn't have any of these kinds of features then you may be SOL.
