recipe: venison TT casserole

Postby Homunculi » Wed Feb 26, 2014 3:07 pm

the mrs got inventive i know it is not much but, it turned out well

she thought she grabbed a roast out of the freezer but got a pack of burger... she did not look at the writing on the package
so i got home to a toss together dinner she made :)

1-1.5lbs ground deer
2 can cream of mushroom soup
2 can of green beans (french cut)
3-5 roasted garlic toes
1 med sized onion
1 bag tater tots
1 block cheddar cheese
mince the garlic and dice the onion to be browned in the skillet with the deer meat
after browned add in the COM and the green beans

put in casserole dish and level out ..
stack tater tots in rows till the meat is covered
grate the cheese till tater tots are covered (try to keep cheese away from the edges for easier cleaning of casserole dish)

follow baking instructions on tater tot bag at temp and time for the tots

she finally told me how she makes it and when she makes it after dinner i am quick to fill up my lunch containers and hide them from her and the boys :)
If I ain't huntin i ain't livin!!

YUM! That looks good. That's my favorite kind of food. Nothing fancy or exotic that you can make from regular ingredients that you probably have on hand.

Don't forget the catsup!!!

You might want to go ahead and get your cholesterol checked early this year...both of you ;)

I've had something very similar that my mom has made in the past using hamburger. I tried to get her to make it with venison burger, but I don't think she ever did. She will use venison burger and sausage in her spaghetti and chili, after I cooked some many years ago and she tried it; and she like the Swiss steak I cook with venison cubed steak.
I'm going to try this recipe as soon as I can buy groceries and pick up some tater tots.

If it's got Tater Tots in it, it's got to be good!

i do not add beef fat to my burger ... and well maybe i should boil some taters and use them sliced instead of tater tots ...
then the only thing with a bad count in it would be the cheese :)

very tasty ... (well i think so) you gotta try it :)

I have to admit, it must taste great. Who doesn't love tater tots (we called them potato puffos. Had a nice ring to it.) and cheese...more the better, but that's a lot of calories. By all means...enjoy. ;)
