Wisconsin Hunters Sound Off!

Postby Corey Graff » Tue Dec 02, 2008 10:08 am

With the recently completed gun-deer season in the books, many of
Wisconsin's deer hunters are crying foul. In short, hunters from across the
state believe the Department of Natural Resources deer management strategy
has finally reached a tipping point where deer numbers have crashed in some
areas.

The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board will convene next week, and the topic
of deer populations and densities is sure to come up. Among those in
attendance will be members of the Conservation Congress, a group of
sportsmen who act as an advisory board.

If you would like to file a deer-related comment for the DNR's
consideration, call or write to Chairman Edgar Harvey, Jr. at:

Chairman, Wisconsin Conservation Congress
N3635 Timberview Rd
Waldo , Wisconsin 53093
920-528-7071

or send an email to:

Robert Bochmann, Vice Chair, at wcc.racinecounty@yahoo.com

Thanks Corey, I did recieve a very fast response from Kurt Theide of the WCC.  Not a spam response but actually seemed to pass on my concerns to the Big Game Commission.  Everyone should be in contact with someone, tell a friend, the more input/the more pressure we can put on the DNR

Article I, §26
Right to fish, hunt, trap, and take game. Section 26. [As created April 2003] The people have the right to fish, hunt, trap, and take game subject only to reasonable restrictions as prescribed by law. [2001 J.R. 16, 2003 J.R. 8, vote April 2003]

State of WI Constitution

Obviously our rules, regulations and guidlines are reasonable restrictions.  Hmmm, maybe it's just me but reading this made me think.  Requiring me to harvest an animal I do not want or need, in order to pursue an animal I want....sounds like an unreasonable restriction to me.

Any attorneys on our board?

Gentlemen,
I'm sure the 2008 deer hunting season was very upsetting for many hunters throughout the state. I will not be able to answer every e-mail that I get from all of you. However, I will be printing them off to bring with me to our Big Game Committee meeting in Stevens Point on December 19th. I can assure you that myself and the rest of the members of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress are listening to all of you, and we will continue to represent all of you the best we can. Many of us share the same concerns. Please continue to e-mail me at wcc.racinecounty@yahoo.com

Sincerely,
