T/C Encore Pistol

Does anyone shoot or hunt with a T/C Encore pistol? What caliber are you shooting? How is the accuracy? What kind of range can you get out of it? Are you shooting scope or open sights?

Thinking about getting one for whitetail hunting, but I don't know anyone who has one. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about them.

ya my dads friend her has one
he shot a doe with it at 150 yards with a scope its a pretty accurate gun
as for rounds he is using i wouldnt be able to tell ya
i have the slightest clue
i do know that you can get multiple calibers for them
something like a 270 would be best
but i am not sure

thanks. yeah, i think they come in 22-250, 270, and 308. I was thinking of going with a 270. I was hoping the range would still reach at least 150 or 200, but being a pistol and a shorter barrel, I'm not sure what to expect for range. I'm sure it wont be as long as a regular rifle, but 150 yards if good. Thanks.

If you haven't handled an encore before you may wont to do so before you buy, they are kinda large, long way to the trigger
I hunt with a contender in 7-30 waters, super 14" barrel, the tenders are smaller frames
There are several calber choices for deer in the contender's & the encore's

Never tried an ENCORE but my CONTENDER 44MAG (HAND CANNON) KICKS and KILLS deer very easy.

I would imagine that members that don't shoot a TC Encore aren't going to respond to the thread ! [8|]
 
I have a Contender with a 22 , 223 , 7-30 waters and a 44 mag barrel (all 14" barrels) . I got lucky and nailed a wooochuck at 160 yards using a fencepost to steady the pistol .
I traded my 7-30 waters ported hunter barrel for a regular 14" barrel as I didn't care for the noise . I shot a doe at about 55 yards a few years back .My 44 mag barrel is ported .
 
My oldest son has an Encore 308 pistol . I havn't seen it but I bought him a couple boxes of bullets for it last spring .

I own 2 tc pistols-both encore-one came with 50 cal. muzzleloader barrel, the other with 44 mag.
They (TC) have a wide range of barrels and you can get 4 or 5 after market brands, mgm, ott, or get custom barrels from tc or ea brown or others.
ridgerunner is correct-try the contender and the encore for size and feel. My hand happens to be just large enough for the encore. However, you can get custom grips from a variety of people to fit your hand for either-but the encore will still be bigger.
I have gotten 1 deer with the ml and none with the 44. I bought a custom barrel 44 cal. from match grade machine with a brake and it is a great shooter. I also have a 223 for long range (if I can stop shaking) shooting.

I know you only asked about tc's but my journey led me from my encore 44 mag to reloading 44 mags, to owning a Ruger Super Redhawk, to buying a Blackhawk 357, to reloading 357 mag., to buying a H+R Ultra slug hunter, to buying a Lee load all to reload Lyman cast sabot slugs, and now to buying a Marlin 1894 44 mag leveraction.
My point is be carefull on this journey-it is a lot of work and fun!!

I just reread your post and you asked about accuracy-the tc  44 barrel is good to 125 yards if I do my part-good ammo(even my sloppy handloads)-the mgm 44 is good to 150 yards-my SRH is good to 75-100 yards if I'm on-the gun is much more accurate than I am.
I use a Burris Ballistic Plex on the mgm 44, bushnell trophy on the SRH and Mueller Quickshot on the ml barrel-illuminated sight.
All of the barrells shoot good-I don't try for precision shooting-just killing groups at hunting-100 and under- ranges. My idea of a good group is to shoot all of the hunting weapons I've listed and have a fist size 4 inch hole in the kill area of a silhouette deer target at 50, 75 or 100 yards.

I do shoot the 223 and mgm 44 at 125 to 150 or even out to 200 yards with surprising results. I hit the target- at that range it's usually a 12" dirty bird target so I can see the hits.

The reason I didn't buy the contender is I could only find 2 used ones in my area and I thought I was only going to shoot a muzzleloader handgun. Boy was I wrong.

If you finally get an Encore and want extra barrels , check out this site . He has all caliber Encore barrels . Ed's Contenders . I did a barrel swap with him a few years ago . Excellent businessman !

I've got an Encore in .243.The accuracy is like a rifle,1.5" at 100 yards,5" at 200(this would be better but with a 6x scope it's hard to see the target).I shot a medium sized 8-point at 118 yards with it & he fell right over.With the shorter barrel the bullet drops much faster,I've got it sighted in 1" high at 100 yards & the bullet drops about 6" at 200.The trigger pull is fine,I wish the shells would eject automatically,it's hard to pull the empty out with gloves on.
