I'm 6'4" 240 to 250 lbs, I work construction, so there is alot of ladder climbing and heavy lifting.  I still found myself winded after my 2 mile hike with climber and gear to get to my core bowhunting area.  I started carrying a back pack when I walk my dogs.  The first few weeks I packed 30 lbs, then increased to 40.  Seems sufficient on the weight, now I'm increasing the distance by 1/2 mile and feel that will be fine.

I play alot of basketball in the winter and golf in the summer.  i try to walk the course when I can so it keeps me in shape.  i'm like 6'6" 210, i know i'm not overweight but i'm certainly out of shape!  I bought my wife an eliptical machine last year and she has yet to touch it.  i'm thinking that and an excercise ball would be an adequate workout?

I w/o 5 days a week for about 45-55 min (depends on the routine)
and 25-30 minutes of cardio.

I'll run on occassion but I get extremely bored running.

I keep a mental log of how many grams of protein and carbs I eat a day. I have been doing all the above since 1984 so it's pretty much a lifestyle now.

I like to think I am in decent shape for my age.

I have designed my own line of workout gear. I thought this thread would give me the chance at some free advertising, so I posted a pic of me hanging out in 'em.

Mostly watch hunting shows on the outdoor channel, and drink Samuel Adams Boston Lager or other fine seasonal beers...

JPH,

I have been training jiu jitsu for several years(purple belt) and MMA as well (Just train dont fight, only grappling competition). lately I have just been doing the submission grappling since it is closer to home. It is hands down the best workout you will ever get! I also play hockey which is a good work out as well, but grappling is a cardio/muscle workout for your whole body!

how did the grappling go? JPH by flying gogoplata!!!!!
Put me on a mountain, way back in the backwoods
Put me on a lake with biggin' on the line
Put me around a campfire cookin' something I just cleaned

Anything and everything. Hiking, biking, raquetball, weightlifting, treadmills, elipticals machines, gardening, landscaping. I try to use them all if available. I've gained 30 pounds since college but fortunately it's mostly lean mass. Not all but mostImage. I definitley need more cardio as I age. 4-5 times a week, combining weights and cardio, for an hour is about right.  Biggest enemy is 1. Beer 2. fatty foods 3. chocolate.  BP & sugar levels good, cholestrol climbing, gotta get that under control.   I normally eat very well during the week, but the weekends have the biggest temptations! Soon, my wife will join my gym and that's great when you have a partner who can push you and keep you honest.

Stay active, keep moving. Keep the aging process at bay as long as you can. You owe it to yourself and your families. Good luck everyone!
