Hey Osty,  I used to live across the bay fro NAS Whidbey Island about 3 miles out of Coupville at Long Point Manor. I really love that area. I have a sister that lives in Oak Harbor, she is a nurse working on the base.
There was a game preserve not far from the house and the deer would come to our yard and eat apples. I think that is what got me interested in deer hunting.
How did you like Whidbey Island?

I joined the U.S. Army Reserve while still in high school. I spent 6 years in the HQ Co., 961st Engineer Battallion, 416th Engineer Brigade. I did basic and AIT at Fort Jackson S.C. in 1966. We never were deployed during the Viet Nam War.
When I attended my son's graduation from basic training at Ft Leonard Wood in 2007, several of the cadre were wearing 416th Eng patches as their combat unit patch. I guess they got deployed to Iraq.
My son just returned from 14 months in Baghdad with the 5-25th Field Artillery 4th Brigade 10th Mountain Division. He'll now train in Louisiana for another year then off to Afghanistan.
My heartfelt thanks to all who served.
