I'm not really into bands. I'd rather listen to individual singers. Some of my favorites include (in no particular order, except that Cash ought to be at the top, with Newbury a close second):
Willie Nelson
Randy Travis
Merle Haggard (his old stuff)
Johnny Cash (anything and everything)
Waylon Jennings
Tom T. Hall (what a songwriter!)
Mickey Newbury (especially "Frisco Mabel Joy")
Some of you may never have heard of Mickey Newbury, but I don't know how you can really call yourself a country fan if you don't know who he is. He was one amazing songwriter. I had "Frisco Mabel Joy" on an LP when I was in college, but it took me many, many years before I found it on CD. Then the CD in my car gobbled it up and when I finally retrieved it the disc wouldn't play right. Fortunately, I was able to find another after only a few months.
