I'm from southwestern MN. Hunt mostly Cottonwood and Redwood counties. Darn hard to find big bucks around this area, mostly open fields with a few wooded creeks and rivers here and there. Most bucks get shot when only a 1 1/2 years old. But we do have a ton of pheasants.

MN_Prairie_Prowler,
I live in the Twin Cities, but hunt just north of you (Swift County).

I hear ya regarding the open fields.  My area is very similar.

This is a pic of my "ambush" spot.  If you look hard, you can see the rub on little tree in the foreground.

I'm from Cloquet, and currently live 25 miles north of Cloquet, or about 30 miles NW of Duluth. I am fortunate enough to be able to hunt from my home. My nearest neighbor is a mile away in any direction, and although we only own 36.5 acres I live in the middle of many thousands of acres of forrest. I spend most of the season hunting public land, saving our property for the end of the season. I am truly blessed when it comes to hunting.
