ORIGINAL: NC Deer Hunter
Well, if you're not worried about the cost, I shoot a Savage Model 10 ML-II. It's 50 Cal & Stainless Steel, shoots smokeless power, a 209 primer & is extremely accurate out to 200 yards with a 40 cal sabot.
When I purchased this Rifle back in 2005 the total cost was $1,200 +. The bare Rifle was $700, Scope is a Leupold VX I 3-9 x 40, $250, you will have to buy Scales to weigh out the smokeless powder, sabots & bullets. I can't remember the type of powder im shooting but I found 42Grains in my Rifle to be the most accurate load. If you happen to decide to go this route I will be more than happy to get the numbers & brand names of the powder, bullets, sabots & primers, not that it will make a diffrence but this is a proven set up in my Rifle.
NC Deer Hunter and anyone else that has input, tell me how you like your Savage ML II. I am looking at getting one of these this year. I have a buddy that hunts with one and he swears by it. He says 5" groups at 300 yards. I'm not sure what type of powder he uses but I know it's smokeless. He has told me 63 gr. of his powder and a 250 gr. bullet. He did misfire on a big deer last year but I think the humidity had alot to do with that. I'm just curious if any of you have used them and what are the pro's and con's?
NC Deer Hunter, please reveal your load mixture so I can write it down. If I get one I would like to try several different load combos to see which one fits better. Thanks!
