I have a favorite brand, but I'm reluctant to name it. I've hunted with many scopes of low to middle range in cost and quality. Tasco, Bushnell, Simmons, Unertl, Leupold, Nikon, Mueller, Alpin, and probably one or two more that I don't remember.
Often message board discussions of optics quickly degenerate into "_______ is junk" and other unhelpful, unsupported comments. Optics is one area that seems to bring out the snobbery in some people. I'm glad to see that this thread has not gone that way.
I have always bought the best that I could afford, and I have never been let down by any of them. There are some very good buys in scopes today, and many companies to choose from. Each of us is in a different situation with regard to what we are comfortable with, what feels and looks good to us, the level of crispness and clarity that satisfies us, and the money we are able or willing to spend. Usually we don't go "Lone Ranger" -- we take the advice of someone we trust. Most of us buy the best we can afford, and who can ask any more?
