where to go?

Newbie hunter here, I live in Guilford County and I'm looking for a good place hunt. Any good public places y'all recommend?

Welcome to the forum lookin4myfirst. I'm not very familar with the Guilford County area but I do know that it's not too far from Montgomery County where I hunt. Montgomery County has the Uwharrie National Forest which is over 50,000 acres and has 2.5 deer per square mile.

lookin i am looking some people to join a club i have in halfax county we got 315 acres there. lots of deer turkey ducks rabbits an all that even some black bear but cant kill them yet.

Take a look at Falls of Neuse/Butner Gamelands in Granville, Durham and Wake Counties.  Especially good for archery.  Black powder gets busy and during rifle season you will have to contend with dog hunting.  I have been successful with the muzzleloader though now I am on some private property.  The Uwharrie tip is a good one too.  Good luck!

I am also new to deer hunting in NC.  For some areas it states:
 
"Gun Either-Sex Deer Season: Nov. 14 – 20 and Dec. 26 – Jan. 1 (moderate season)."
 
What exactly does this mean?  Does this mean that you can hunt bucks from Nov. 14 through Jan 1, but only hunt either buck or doe Nov. 14 - 20 and Dec. 26 - Jan 1?  Or does it meant that I can only hunt on the land those specific dates?

It looks like the legal doe harvest days with a firearm for your area are the dates given.  The regulations digest ought to explain it better than it does.  You could also contact a Game Warden in your area who would happily explain the season.

Also new to NC hunting.  Have hunted in Texas for years but just recently moved to Lake Norman area.  In Texas I hunted on leases (paid $X per gun).  Is NC similar, or do you have to find hunt clubs?  I would like to find a place for my son and I to hunt both deer and turkey that would be no more than 2-3 hours from Charlotte.  Any suggestions on where to start?

Most hunters are in hunt clubs or on public land.

Uwharrie is close to you and it would be a good place to start. It's 50,000acres.

I have a hunt club but it's near the VA border.
