Very rarely....I'd throw a camera on it and see what you might get. I read an article awhile back that said deer occasionally check established scrapes all year long but only work them in the fall/winter? Who knows? The last time I found a big late (or early[:D]) scrape like you describe, I did not own a camera, so......
It matters not the weapon nor its caliber, rather the caliber of the one who wields it.
