Advice needed.....

Postby cutngut85 » Mon Oct 05, 2009 7:55 am

My birthday is around the corner and I've decided that I want a trail cam. I haven't used one before but after seeing all the pics and the wealth of knowledge that can be obtained from having one, I'm sold. My fiance and I usually spend around 100-150 for a gift, so my question to you all is what is a good choice for that price range? I want something pretty simple to use and a decent quality photo. Thanks in advance!

I like the Stealth Cam Rogue IR.
check out website for specs

-takes good pictures at day and night.......
-good trigger speed
-does not eat through batteries like other cameras
-the best bang for the buck
usual can get them for about 130 at gander mountain
Best camera ive ever used!!

You maybe able to get an older cuddeback off ebay for 150..or Even a newer one thats used for that price.

You can't go wrong with the Moutrie D40. For $89 regular price or $69 when on sale you get a 4 megapixal flash camera that comes with a 1 gig SD card. Trigger time on it is awesome and with the flash your night time pictures will be in color and trust me when I say the flash doesn't spook the deer, I imagine they think it's lightning. I liked my first one so much I bought a second one this year when they went on sale at Bass Pro.

Moultrie D40s are nice...But looking back I'd probably spend a few more bucks and get an IR.  I still not totally sold that flashes from these cameras totally spook deer to the point where you can't hunt them, but why take the chance?  That's what my next camera will be.  I believe the Moultrie IR is about $150.

Thanks for the replies everyone......Thinking of going with the Stealthcam. I really don't trust Ebay all that much, but thanks for the option. Still have a little time to decide so if anyone else has any input, it would be appreciated.

Here is what I would do....tell your fiance that for your birthday you want to spend a day at Cabelas...then go to their Bargain Basement and you can find the used Moultrie D-40's for $79...she can pick ya up two of them.  I have three and for the money you can't go wrong, they take good pics..just make sure you get a security lock box for them.

I have 4 cuddebacks  , I have tried others they don't work as good.
the capture runs $199.99 it's worth it. Very easy to set up, some of the
other cuddebacks are more complicated to set up. If you want to see
some pics it takes go to the outdoor channel website click on community
in the search box type Bob from Pa  good luck hope i could help.
