Hunting NY

I need to ask some vetran NY hunters some questions.
I am interested in possibly hunting NY state next year. To keep costs down, I'm looking at hunting in Copake NY where I have relatives.
Can I use a centerfire rifle, or do I have to use a shotgun?
Are there any other areas that you vetrans would suggest? I am looking to just have some fun, and hopefully harvest a deer.

I had never heard of Copake , NY before . I did some research and it is in Colombia County and is very close to the Mass border . Colombia County in in Region 4Z . 4Z allows Bow , ML , Handgun , Shotgun and Rifle ( according to the info on page 22 of the NY Hunting & Trapping laws and regulations) .

copake ny is rifle country it is in columbia county duttchess  county is shot gun only
